In neighborhoods around Detroit there are houses with orange doors. These doors are a sign Brillant Detroit moved in. Center officials say they partnered with Brilliant Detroit to bring a cohesive set of physical activity and healthy eating services to neighborhoods. Officials say their goal is to change lives and assure all kids in each neighborhood have access to the tools to succeed.

SOT- Ebonie Guyton, Program Director

BRILLANT WAS DEVELOPED WITH THE GOAL IN MIND OF REALLY SUPPORTING FAMILIES WHO HAVE KIDS FROM ZERO TO EIGHT TO PROVIDE RESOURCES TO THEM SO THAT THEY’RE HEALTHY, STABLE, ON TRACK FOR BEING READY FOR KINDERGARTEN AND ALSO READING AT A THIRD GRADE LEVEL.

TRACK

Every year the center holds a Farmers Market where students can purchase fresh produce. This year the market is in a new location on the corner of Woodward and Warren. Many Michigan and local Detroit vendors attend the market including Avalon Bakery. Students can eat at one of the many food trucks on campus. The Center also dedicates a space for Yoga in the Park instructed by Kids Work It Out. Here people can bring their yoga mats and exercise for one hour.

SOT-Heather Ladanyi, Research Associate and KHS Manager

WE TRIED TO REIMAGINE THE SPACE HERE AND INVIGORATE THE SPACE HERE AND MAKE IT A MORE COMMUNITY-ORIENTED MARKET BY INCLUDING BLOOD PRESSURE TESTING, YOGA.

Students who missed the market this year can go the first week of June when the market reopens next summer.
